A Stephen Minister is a one-to-one encouragement-giver helping people in need. Through caring relationships, Stephen ministers lovingly walk with those who are hurting and are in need of support during difficult circumstances. This is a confidential ministry, and those receiving care can be sure that their identity and what goes on in the caring relationship will remain private.
Stephen Ministers are not professional counselors. They are lay men and women who have received 50 hours of initial training in important caring ministry skills such as listening, assertiveness, confidentiality, crisis theory and intervention, and the use of prayer and the Bible.
